Advantages of Dental Implants

If you are thinking about getting dental implants, you may have a few questions about why they might be a better choice for you than dentures or bridges. Dental implants are usually more expensive initially than either of those, but there can be good reasons to choose them.

Better for Adjacent Teeth

A dental bridge can put a strain on adjacent teeth and can require grinding them down in order to insert the bridge. An implant does not involve other teeth.

Preserving the Jawbone

Dental implants are the only approach to replacing a missing tooth or teeth that preserves the jawbone. When a tooth is lost, the bone is not stimulated, and it eventually breaks down and is absorbed into the gum. With a dental implant, the bone grows around the implant and is maintained.

Like a Natural Tooth

A dental implant is set into the jaw and behaves very much like a person's own tooth. It looks and feels like one as well. A person does not have to do anything special to care for it beyond what they would do for a normal healthy tooth.

Dental implants are not for everyone. If it has been some time since the tooth was lost and the bone has deteriorated, it may be expensive to rebuild the bone. Some people might prefer dentures because they are less invasive. However, if a dentist considers you a good candidate for implants, this can be an excellent solution.
